SAMPLE ACADEMY CURRICULUM
The Leadership Academy meets for a two-day orientation retreat and nine monthly program days. The curriculum changes slightly each year depending on the availability of venues and guest leaders/speakers. I begins with a professionally facilitated two-day orientation to start the Academy program year in September, including team-building and problem-solving activities and an introduction to the Academy curriculum.
Then, Leadership Academy fellows meet monthly to explore institutions, local and regional challenges and resources in MetroWest and to engage in discussions with policy makers, business leaders, educators and experts in their field. A sample Academy curriculum may include: Government, Economy, Health & Human Services, Housing, Transportation, Public Safety, Environment, and Arts & Culture. Each Academy day also includes conversations about leadership development, antiracism, social justice and how to be an advocate for community building.
Throughout the year, the Academy program days include time set aside for a group service project where class members get hands-on experience in every aspect of creating and implementing a community based intitiative.
